The first thing that comes to one’s mind when you hear the word monsoon is the stimulating and fascinating aroma of the wet soil. The aroma that arises when the rains hit the Mother Earth is really very intoxicating. Monsoon is one of the best seasons in India. It is also the most sought after season after the hot and humid summer season. The monsoon arrives in the country from the south. Kerala, also known as the Gods Own Country, is one of the states where monsoon arrives early. Then slowly it moves to the other parts of the country with time.

Irrespective of the state and province monsoon is the most awaited season throughout the country. People of different age groups have different reasons to wait for the rains. The kids wait for the season so that they can enjoy their time drenched in the rain. Kerala is a place where tourists from all over the world comes visiting throughout the year. Tourists prefer to visit the state pre and post monsoons. Now the reason for this may be that they think there won’t be much to see during the monsoons in Kerala.

But that is a wrong perspective. Kerala is most beautiful during monsoon. With greenery all around and the God blessing its Country with splendid rains is a view to watch out for. According to local tourist guides and tourism specialists, monsoon is the best season to visit Kerala. They also put up some reasons for the same. They say that as it is an off-season for tourism in Kerala during monsoon the expenditure would be far lesser that what one would have to spend otherwise.

Many hotels including the 5 star ones in the state drop their rates up-to 50% during the monsoon season. Most of the clients of BounzD in the hospitality sector have started facing the heat this monsoon season. The number of enquiries they receive including ones they receive through BounzD have reduced drastically.  Till now the drop in enquiries through BounzD have been about 40% and the drop in the tradional walk in and phone-in enquiries have dropped by more than 65%. It is expected to drop down more in the days ahead according to the hotel management. The hotel management have been working on various packages like reduced room rates, combo packages and discounts to regular monsoon visitors to put a check on the reduction in the number of tourists visiting.

Even Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) is coming up with various monsoon packages in tie-up with various hotels in the tourist spots including Wayanad, Kovalam, Alleppey, Cochin among others.  As the monsoon arrives early in Kerala as compared to the northern parts of the country most tourist package providers are considering them as the prospective targets to come and enjoy the scenic beauty of the God’s Own Country.
